John-Michael Howson OAM
MGLC Patron
In 2010, MGLC is thriving, and it welcomes people from diverse backgrounds – straight, bi, gay, lesbian, transgender. All the colours of the rainbow!
2005 marked a milestone for MGLC with the formation of the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Youth Chorus. Members of both choruses challenge stereotypes and stand as proud role models for those still struggling with their sexuality or identity.
Each year MGLC presents at least two major concerts. The repertoire for these concerts and other performances is marked by their diversity also – anthems, show tunes, pop songs, world music, folk, gospel, jazz, madrigals, classical, religious music and carols are all genres in their music case. Additionally, MGLC combines its efforts to support wider community events and causes.
MGLC is a winner of two Rainbow Awards for ‘best Live Performance in 2004 and 2005’. With their collective talents and the support of patron John-Michael Howson behind them, they are a community force of professional standard to be reckoned with, a group dedicated to celebrating the joy of diversity through song.
